Our History

bromsgrove diy

Broad Street DIY was first opened in 1979 on Broad Street in Sidemoor by my parents Tony & Linda after they returned to their hometown of Bromsgrove after living in Australia.
Back then local deliveries were made by Dad & Uncle Tim with a trailer hitched to an old Cortina before our tipper trucks came along.  The shop was a great success but it was Sunday trading that really put us on the map with Dad’s innovative way of getting round the Trading Laws…by selling onions!

Staffed predominately by family members our customers knew they could expect great personal service from Dad, Tim, myself and later my brother, Brian. The following years would find other family members joining the fold such as my wife Hayley and my sister Debbie as well as my step-mum Diane and her son Ross.

In 2001 we made the bold move to leave Sidemoor and open a bigger store on the Worcester Road with a large Landscaping Yard in nearby Factory Lane.

Although a much larger premises, family is still very much at the heart of Broad Street DIY with my Mum still working here with her husband Andy and also Diane’s daughter Lisa joined us in 2002.
The day to day running of the store is now managed by myself, Brian, Hayley & Lisa but Dad is still ‘The Boss’ and he’s always around to give any advice you may need…in between trips abroad of course.  In addition to the family we also have staff members who have been with us for many years providing our customers with consistency and a ‘familiar face’ in addition to product knowledge gained over the years.

Business has gone from strength to strength and since moving to Worcester Road we have introduced a new computerised accounts system and put in touch screen EPOS tills to provide quicker, smoother transactions.
We have expanded our delivery fleet to include 2 tipper trucks, a transit van and a Hiab grab truck to enable us to provide our customers with speedy delivery service 7 days a week.
We have a new kitchen and bathroom showroom upstairs and also offer a measuring service where Stuart is on hand to help you plan your kitchen layout.

The last few years have seen us welcome the third generation into the family business with 2 of my son’s Sam and Robbie working at the shop now and my youngest, Liam starting soon with Lisa’s daughter, Madison. By showing the youngsters how important our customers are to our family business and teaching them how to provide knowledgeable, friendly service we can ensure that our high standards and values continue in the years to come as our story continues.
